What the heck is Border Wars?
Border Wars is half online map-based strategy game and half live action competition, fought between the illustrious Houses of Everland (made up of Calgary Area youth, in grades 6-12). The various Houses of Everland are divided up into four main Alliances.
The strategic side of Border Wars is run through this website by a group of volunteers and through a once a month event called the War Council. It could probably be described as some sort of concoction of Sid Meier’s Civilization video game franchise and board games such as Small World, Settlers of Catan, and Diplomacy.
The live action component takes place on the last friday of every month at Project 314, and sees up to 100 youth competing in games like Dodge ball, GaGa Ball, and other popular youth focused games. Based on the outcome of Border Wars competitions, Houses and Alliances gain and lose points, as well as territories on the Map of Everland, all based on the conflicts that arise from the decisions made by each Alliance’s War Council.
If you’re interested in getting involved in Border Wars and are looking to join one of the fourteen Houses of Everland, or if you just want to know more, come check out Project 314 at 7pm every friday at Calgary Life Church (11400 27 Street SE, Calgary Alberta)
